Albert Heath died in the First World War.

There is a postcard from him, postmarked Windsor, 24 December 1914, addressed to his father, Mr A. Heath, at 18, Wilson Street. The text is:

Dear Dad,

I arrived home safe and sound. I had to go on Castle Guard next day,
and pickett the next. But we look like having a happy Xmas. My
mate has gone on guard to night so he will not have much of a one. I
hope you will all enjoy yourselves. Remember me to Nick and tell him I
could not get a little Willie. I remain your loveing son Alb.

The picture on the front of the postcard shows a cartoon figure of the
Kaiser, with moustache, spiked helmet and pyjamas, * pursued by a
small brown bear wearing an imperial British crown. The caption is
"Willie, with a bear behind."


He won a 1914-15 Star, which was sent to his father on 25 February
1920 with the following message:

I am directed to transmit to you the accompanying 1914-15 Star which
would have been conferred upon no 11854 Pte A.A.Heath Coldstream
Guards had he lived, in memory of his services with the British Forces
during the Great War.
In forwarding the Decoration I am commanded by the King to assure
you of His Majesty's high appreciation of the services rendered.
I am to request that you will be so good as to acknowledge the receipt
of the Decoration on the attached form.

I am, Your obedient Servant, JTW Studd [?] Colonel.
Lt.-Col. Commanding Coldstream Guards.


According to the records of the Commonwealth War Graves
Commission (computer database) he died on Saturday,
7th February 1915, aged 19. His name appears on a panel at the
Le Touret Memorial, located at the east end of Le Touret Military
Cemetary, on the south side of the Bethune-Armentieres main road
in Northern France. Over 13,000 names are listed on the memorial
of men who fell in this area before 25 September 1915 and who have
no known grave.
