SIXTY-FIVE YEARS TOGETHER

Mr. and Mrs. S. Disbrey of Whaddon.

Mr and Mrs Steven Disbrey, of 9 Bridge-street, Whaddon, celebrated
their ruby wedding on Monday.

Married at Bassingbourn Church on Bassingbourn Feast day, 1873,
Mr and Mrs Disbrey resided at Bassingbourn for 20 years, and then
went to Bridge-street, Whaddon, where they have resided ever since.
Mr Disbrey is a native of Whaddon and Mrs Disbrey a native of
Bassingbourne.

At the time of the marriage, Mr Disbrey was engaged in the coprolite
work then going on at Whaddon, and afterwards was employed by
Mr F. Haywood, farming at Royston, and Mr. R. Haywood, farming
at Bassingbourn. Mr Disbrey retired at the age of 70.

Mr Disbrey is aged 88, and Mrs Disbrey 87. Their five children are:
Mr G. Disbrey (Finsbury Park), Mrs B. Bow (Gillingham),
Mrs Chamberlain (Hornsey), Mrs Green (Gillingham),
Mrs Chamberlain (Hertford).

Said Mrs Disbrey to a "Reporter" representative: "We had no
celebration on this occasion; we did not feel well enough. I am
keeping fairly well, but Dad is not so well. I am still able to do all
my own work in the house, and my children often pay me visits."

Asked how many grandchildren she had, Mrs Disbrey said: "I can't
tell you. I kept count up to 25, and then I couldn't keep count any
longer - and since then I have had some great-grandchildren."

Mrs Disbrey added that she was the only surviving member of a
family of six. Mr Disbrey is a member of a family of 11, and has
two sisters and one brother alive.
